We've simplified our baggage policy across the network, including simplifying our excess bag rates.
The charges stated below apply to Air New Zealand operated flghts only. If your flight is operated by an Air New Zealand partner airline, you will need to check the rates with the airline operating the service.
For flights booked with us flying on Virgin Australia then Air New Zealand excess baggage charges apply. Find out more about the trans-Tasman alliance.
For travel in New Zealand the checked baggage allowance is no baggage for grabaseat™, one piece for grabaseat+bag and Smart Saver fares and two pieces for Flexi Plus fares (up to 23kg each piece). Note - if travelling as part of an international itinerary the international rules apply.
If any piece of Domestic baggage weighs more than 23kg, customers will be asked to repack their baggage and if necessary purchase an additional bag tag. Any item that is unable to be reduced in weight (e.g. large dogs or heavy equipment that cannot be separated) will be subject to a $50 overweight fee.
