Auckland - Narita/Tokyo Flights

Air New Zealand is currently operating up to 3 x per week cargo services between Auckland and Narita, Tokyo.  Utilising these cargo services, from 25 June Air New Zealand operate a passenger service on one AKL to NRT northbound service and one NRT to AKL southbound service per week.

Frequency is limited due to the current stringent government border controls in both New Zealand and Japan.  Increased frequencies will be added as demand increases.

Please check the terms and conditions carefully before making your flight booking as the flights are subject to some special conditions.

Terms and conditions

  • Customers travelling on these services will be subject to all applicable government border controls.  Please check whether you are eligible to satisfy these requirements before booking.  Those who do not meet any applicable government entry requirements will not be allowed to board the flight.  New Zealand border restrictions are here.  Japan border restrictions are here.
  • It is not possible for Japan inbound passengers to connect with Japan domestic flights at Narita as a PCR test will be required at Narita airport upon entering Japan.  Find out more
  • Currently, only New Zealand citizens and residents may enter New Zealand.  Upon arrival at Auckland you will be required to undertake 14 days quarantine or isolation in Auckland and will not be able to connect directly beyond Auckland.  Find out more
  • For outgoing passengers in Japan and New Zealand it is possible to connect from a domestic flight to an international flight.
  • Currently only flights up until end of August can be booked.
  • There is a minimum number of passengers required to operate these flights.  If the required number is not met, Air New Zealand may cancel a flight.
  • Please note that the number of people who the Japanese authorities can accept for PCR tests upon entering Japan is being set daily at the request of the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB).  This number is changing regularly.   While we are endeavouring to only sell seats so as to not exceed current known limits, if the limit is further reduced and/or the number of flights arriving in Japan increases meaning the PCR test capability is exceeded and JCAB changes its guidance, we may need to ask you to change your reservation.
  • For booking these flights, please access Air New Zealand’s web site or inquire to your travel agent.
  • If you have a credit for a cancelled flight or ticket after September, you can use it on these flights, however any fare difference will be payable. Please contact our contact centre.
